The purpose of this job: To provide a safe and secure Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Service to the entire diabetic population in the programme area, in accordance with National and company policies and procedures, with the ultimate aim of reducing new blindness due to diabetic retinopathy.

The main accountabilities:
To contribute to the patients pathway through the screening process. Ensuring that patients are triaged directly in accordance with company policy and ensure the download of patient's information is carried out on a daily basis
To operate in accordance with all current and future Medical Imaging company policies and procedures
To undertake screening administration tasks as the programme needs require, but also be flexible in your approach to the changing needs of the local programme and the company as a whole.
All Screeners are expected to continue their personal development in order to fulfil the role and develop their career. This can be done by attending appropriate accredited courses, meetings, seminars, workshops, conferences and via on-line sessions
Be committed to making patients the number one focus in order to provide the best level of care possible within the diabetic eye screening programme
To support the local programme and wider company in a range of capacities such as in administration, audits, quality control and service improvement procedures to ensure the local screening programme surpass National standards and performance indicators.

Location: North of Tyne and Gateshead DESP

Starting Salary: Band 7

Job Description: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Optometrist Specialists to work within the North of Tyne and Gateshead Diabetic Eye Screening Programme. The role is part-time, 2 clinical sessions per week equating to 0.2WTE respectively This will be based across 9 sites in the area but can be flexible to suit. This is for a 6 month period only at the present time
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is motivated and wants to develop their skills, knowledge and experience, whilst working as part of a friendly Diabetic Eye Screening team. You will ideally have the nationally recognised City and Guilds units in diabetic eye screening and be trained to the national Slit Lamp Examiner (SLE) standards.
The role will include; assessment of patients for diabetic retinal complications including – history taking, Snellen refractions, assessment of the patient's retina and reporting finding directly to the diabetic eye screening programme.
The North of Tyne and Gateshead DESP have been running for over 20 years, with a cohort of over 60,000 patients and as part of the National Screening Programme.
